In our sustainable business strategy, we have identified the challenges of today and tomorrow and outlined how we, as a network of companies, use our influence for maximum sustainable impact.
Led by the conviction that technology plays a key role in solving societal issues, we strive to integrate our responsibilities in the areas of environment, social aspects, and governance - summarized under the term ESG - into our business activities and value chain.
One of our priorities in business operations is to focus on reducing energy and CO2 emissions. Our long-term ambition is to reduce our emissions to zero, in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and European climate goals. We achieve this by making buildings and industrial processes more sustainable, reducing energy consumption, and opting for sustainable energy sources and materials. We apply this not only to our clients but also within our own business operations.
Our value creation model illustrates how we create value for people, the planet and society through our activities. It describes how we use the resources available to us (input) and the results generated from those resources (output) in different areas. The outcomes describe the impact we generate and their relationship to the relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
Unica strives to either reduce the negative impact of its activities or to convert that impact into a positive impact on people and society. The financial impact is twofold: the revenue from our business activities generates financial value while those same financial results enable our business to continue its activities. For a complete overview of the positive and negative impact of material topics, we suggest you read the ESG report of our annual report.
With our sustainable strategy, we contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where we have the greatest impact. For Unica, these are the following SDGs:
The future proofness of our business is dependent on our relevance for our stakeholders. To determine whether we meet their expectations, we constantly involve them in our strategy.
With employees, suppliers and subcontractors, clients, governments, industry organizations, knowledge and educational institutions, shareholders and partners, we periodically reflect on the most important themes surrounding sustainable change. These stakeholders are also intensively involved in our new materiality analysis.
Unica has received a Silver Medal from EcoVadis, an acknowledgment awarded to the top 15% of companies assessed by EcoVadis in the 12 months preceding the medal issuance date. This reflects the quality of the company’s sustainability management system and demonstrates a commitment to promoting transparency throughout the value chain.
Unica has committed to setting company-wide emission reductions in line with climate science through the SBTi in the short term.
Unica has achieved CO₂ Performance Ladder level 3, an initiative that helps organizations map their CO₂ emissions and subsequently reduce CO₂ emissions
We conducted an extensive double materiality assessment (DMA), in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). We analysed whether the activities we undertake that have a fundamental impact on people, the environment and society have changed and assessed the resultant financial risks and opportunities. The subjects that emerged were then placed within the three core pillars at Unica, namely:
Climate & Environment
People & Society
Ethics & Integrity
Innovation & Digitalisation still remain important for Unica, but the activities within this scope are conditional and supportive for the three core pillars.
The ESG Framework provides a more in-depth consideration of the topics which emerged from the assessment as being material and how these relate to our existing policy programmes. For a full explanation of the double materiality assessment, please read our ESG report.
